Professor Uchida received his Ph.D. from Nagoya University, Japan, in 1988 and immediately came an Assistant Professor at the same institution. Following postdoctoral training at NIH at Bethesda from 1990 to 1992, he was promoted to an Associate Professor in 1996. Currently, he is a Professor of the Laboratory of Food and Biodynamics, Nagoya University Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences.
The central focus of Dr. Uchida’s research is the physiologic and toxicologic sequelae of lipid peroxidation, an interest he has held since he did his postdoctoral study at NIH. His team has made important discoveries in the field of covalent protein modification with lipid peroxidation-derived electrophilic aldehydes. His laboratory is now expanding this work to understand the relevance of a variety of small molecules, particularly regarding chemicals generated within our bodies and/or encountered in the environment, as ligands and triggers of reactions related to our health.
