Holger Steinbrenner was born in 1967 in Gotha (Thüringen, Germany).
After studying biochemistry in Leipzig and Lyon, he worked at the German
Diabetes Research Institute in Düsseldorf on autoantigens of type 1 diabetes
mellitus. In 2002, he received his Ph.D. from the Heinrich-Heine-University
Düsseldorf. He is now a group leader at the Institute for Biochemistry and
Molecular Biology I at the Heinrich-Heine-University. His major research
interests are on the regulation and function of selenoproteins, mainly seleno-
protein P. His research on interactions between selenium and carbohydrate
metabolism is supported by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
