His research interests focus on the role of oxidized lipids, particularly oxysterols and 4-hydroxynonenal (HNE) in human major chronic diseases. In this relation, main research lines are: i) inflammation and extracellular matrix remodeling sustained by oxidized lipids and instability of the atherosclerotic lesion; ii) potentiation of amyloid-b neurotoxicity by oxysterols and HNE; iii) oxidized lipids in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases and multistep colon carcinogenesis; iv) in vitro and in vivo experimental cell/tissue supplementation with polyphenols, by suitable nanovectors.
