Prof. Patricia Oteiza

Prof. Patricia OteizaProfessor Patricia Oteiza received her doctoral degree in Biological Chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires, in 1985. She held a post-doctoral position at the Department of Nutrition, University of California, Davis (1986-1989). Between 1990 and 2003, she was appointed Assistant and later, Associate Professor at the Department of Biological Chemistry, School of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University of Buenos Aires. Since 1992 she was a Researcher at the National Council for Scientific Research, Argentina (CONICET). In 2003 she joined first as an Associate Professor and since 2009 as Professor, the Departments of Nutrition and of Environmental Toxicology at the University of California, Davis, USA.

Dr. Oteiza has two major research interests focused on the regulation of redox signaling by zinc and by flavonoids which can have an impact in early development and adult health. With regard to flavonoids, her interest is the identification of flavanols and procyanidin cellular targets, their modulation of redox signaling, and the association of these mechanisms with flavonoid protective action in pathologies with a significant inflammatory component, including inflammatory bowel diseases, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes. Dr. Oteiza has published more than 100 articles and given talks in numerous national and international scientific conferences. Currently she is a member of the Advisory board of the Oxygen Club of California, and of the Journal Food and Function (RSC). She has been recently an invited editor of thematic volumes for the Journals Molecular Aspects of Medicine and Biofactors.
