Xingen Lei received his Ph.D. in mineral nutrition from Michigan State University, and now is a Full Professor of Molecular Nutrition at Cornell University. He is an active researcher in the field of antioxidants and diabetes. Using the genetically-altered mouse models, his group has revealed in vivo dual roles and molecular mechanisms of glutathione peroxidase and Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase in oxidative stress, drug toxicity, and pathogenesis of diabetes. His NIH-funded research has enabled him to publish in highly ranked journals such as PNAS and to receive a number of prestigious awards and honors. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Nutrition and was the Chair of the 14th international conference on Trace Elements in Man and Animals (TEMA-14) held in 2011, Enshi, Hubei, China.
