Professor Mark Kearney graduated from the University of Leeds Medical School and was then a Wellcome Trust research fellow at the University of Nottingham where he obtained his MD degree. He subsequently moved to King's College London where he was appointed as a Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology (1999-2002), then as a British Heart Foundation Intermediate Fellow and Senior Lecturer (2002-2006). In 2006, Prof. Kearney moved to the University of Leeds as Chair of Cardiology. His research is funded by the British Heart Foundation and Medical Research Council and focuses on the mechanisms linking insulin resistance to vascular disease. His research group uses an integrated bench to bedside approach, exploiting gene-modified technologies and state of the art cell biology approaches.
