Christine H. Foyer

Christine H. FoyerChristine Helen Foyer is the Professor of Plant Sciences at University of Leeds (UK), where she is also the Chair of Africa College [http://www.africacollege.leeds.ac.uk/] and Director of the Food Security Innovation Hub. She is also a Winthrop Research Professor at the School of Plant Biology at the University of Western Australia, Australia and an external examiner for the University of Mauritius. She has held senior posts at Rothamsted Research (UK), the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research (UK), the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (UK) and the Institut Nationale Recherché Agronomique (France). She has over 300 published papers and has a whole career H-Index = 69 (her total number of citations, as on 03/03/2012, is 17903). She was ranked number 7 in the top 10 list of world-wide most cited authors in Plant and Animal Sciences. She received the “Founders Award” from the journal Plant Physiology and the “Redox Pioneer”, award from the journal Antioxidants and Redox Signalling in 2011. Research in her lab is focused on the regulation of primary plant metabolism under optimal conditions and acclimation to stress, with a specific focus on cellular reduction/oxidation (redox) homeostasis and signalling related to the control of growth and stress tolerance. Her lab uses multidisciplinary approaches incorporating -omics technologies, molecular and biochemical techniques and whole plant physiology to study the relationships between primary metabolism, gene expression and growth under optimal and stress conditions. While tackling research problems of intrinsic scientific interest her research is always mindful of the needs of agriculture and food security.
