Chris Easton received his B.Sc.(Hons.) Degree from Flinders University and his Ph.D. and D.Sc. from the University of Adelaide. He worked at Harvard University, the University of Canterbury in New Zealand and then the University of Adelaide, before taking up his current position as Professor of Chemistry at the Australian National University, where he is Deputy Director of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Free Radical Chemistry and Biotechnology, and Leader of the CSIRO Research Cluster on Biofuels. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Australian Academy of Science. He has been involved in the Society of Free Radical Research (Australasia) since it began more than 25 years ago and is currently its President.
His research interests mainly involve free radical reactions of amino acids and peptides and their derivatives, from basic studies of enzyme catalysis and protein oxidation, to the biosynthetic incorporation of modified amino acids into proteins, and the regulation of peptide hormone levels. Recently he has also been investigating the modification of enzymes from anaerobic organisms for use in robust aerobic applications.
