Enrique Cadenas received his M.D. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He continued his research on free radical biology at the Universities of Pennsylvania (USA), Düsseldorf (Germany), and Linköping (Sweden) and became professor of Pharmacology & Pharmaceutical Sciences (School of Pharmacy) and of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (School of Medicine) at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He received a Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Linköping, School of Medicine, Sweden.
With over 250 publications, Enrique Cadenas’ research interests encompass several aspects of redox biology with emphasis on mitochondrial bioenergetics, redox modulation of signaling and transcriptional pathways and the ensuing protein post-translational modifications, inherent in aging and age-related neurodegenerative diseases, with emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease. He serves on the editorial board of several journals in the field and is co-editor of the Oxidative Stress and Disease series. Dr. Cadenas was President of SFRRI for the 2006-2008 period.
