Grzegorz BARTOSZ, born 1950, has graduated in biology (biochemistry) and physics from the University of Łódź, Poland (1971 and 1978, respectively). He received his Ph.D. in biophysics in 1977 (University of Łódź), Dr. habilit. degree in 1982 (Jagiellonian University of Cracow) and the title of professor (granted by the President of Poland) in 1989. He was visiting scientist in Texas A&M University, University of Dusseldorf, University of Heidelberg, Macquarie University (Sydney), Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve, Henri Poincare University (Nancy), University of Debrecen, University of Dundee and Institute of Chemical Physics (Moscow). He is ordinary professor and head of the Department of Molecular Biophysics at the University of Łódź, ordinary professor and head of the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at the University of Rzeszów. He was a member of the Executive Committee of European Biophysics Societies Association (2007-2009), is the president of the Society for Free Radical Research-Europe (2011-2012), deputy dean for scientific affairs of the Faculty of Biology and Agriculture, University of Rzeszów, corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Art and Sciences, corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, member of editorial boards of Free Radical Biology and Medicine, Acta Biochimica Polonica and Acta Physiologiae Plantarum. His main research interest concerns generation and reactions of reactive oxygen species, mechanisms of action of antioxidants, role of oxidative stress in the aging of cells and organisms, membrane structure and transport and ABC multidrug transporters. Prof. Bartosz is an author of over 300 publications; his Hirsch index h=29.
