President’s Message August 2025
I am deeply honored to step into the role of President of the Society for Free Radical Research International (SFRRI), succeeding Professor Roland Stocker. I am pleased to welcome Professor Maret Traber to our Executive team as President-Elect, while Professor Patricia Oteiza continues her outstanding work as Secretary-General and Professor Corinne Spickett maintains her excellent service as Treasurer. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Professor Giovanni Mann, past President of SFRRI, for his invaluable support—his advice is always precise, insightful, and greatly appreciated. I extend my thanks to all past and current members for their dedication and leadership.
On behalf of SFRR Asia, I am delighted to be the Chair of the 23 rd SFRRI Bienniel Meeting to be held in Japan from 29-30 March 2027. Further information on the venue and scientific programme will be available within the next months.
As we advance further into the post-genomic era, the centrality of redox chemistry in living organisms continues to expand. Today’s strides in genomics and systems biology bring tools of unparalleled power, yet the intricate interplay of redox reactions remains vital to decoding cellular regulation, signaling pathways, metabolic dynamics and disease mechanisms. In biology and medicine, it is these redox processes that bridge genetic insights with functional understanding, offering the keys to innovative diagnostics and therapeutic strategies.
Moving forward, SFRRI will advance integrative approaches that fuse biochemical and redox perspectives with multimodal methodologies, encompassing genetics, epigenetics, single cell analysis, structural biology and related fields. Through our biennial meetings, collaborative forums and publications, we aim to empower our members—especially Early Career Researchers—to pioneer this interdisciplinary frontier. Our Society stands ready to foster breakthroughs that could redefine health and provide insights into the molecular principles of life.
I look forward to working closely with all regional SFRR Societies and every member of our vibrant redox community to strengthen our network, drive innovation and elevate the impact of redox science across the world.
With best wishes for an exciting and productive 2025 and beyond,
Hozumi Motohashi
President, SFRRI
