Hidekazu Suzuki, M.D., Ph.D., FACG is Associate Professor of Division of
Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Internal Medicine, Keio
University School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan. He received his MD from Keio
University, Japan in 1989, and obtained his PhD in Gastroenterology from
Keio University Graduate School of Medical Science in 1994. He is a member
of international Scientific Program Committee of SFRRI-2014 in Kyoto, and
a Board Member of SFRR-Japan.
He is an Associate Editor of several journals such as American Journal of Gastroenterology (AJG), Microvascular Communications and Review (MVRC), Digestive Endoscopy (DEN), Clinical and Translational Gastroenterology (CTG), Frontiers in non-coding RNA, an Editorial Board Member of several journals such as Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (JGH), Gastric Cancer (GCAN), World Journal of Gastroenterology, World Journal of Clinical Oncology, Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition, Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility. He obtained the SFRR-Japan Award for young scientist in 2002, and the Journal of Gastroenterology high citation Award and the SFRR Japan Award of Scientific Excellence in 2011. He is now a specialist member of Delphi consensus for the International guideline in the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE) and a member of Rome IV chapter committee of Rome foundation (an organization that provides support for research in the diagnosis and treatment of functional gastrointestinal disorders: FGIDs).
His research interests focus on the role of oxidative stress on H. pylori infection and H. pylori-associated gastric carcinogenesis, the role of autophagy and ROS production
in the process of host-bacterial interaction. Recently, he revealed the
importance of reduced glutathione-rich CD44v9-positive gastric cancer stem
cells for the gastric carcinogenesis.
